Legend Design Language

“Modernizing & Enriching the Brand”

Design Language Modernization & Product Category Proliferation

  • « As Senior Principal Industrial Designer, I was the Industrial Design Team Lead for Gaming Peripherals categories. My role included creative direction, design planning, Team mentorship, as well as creating & pitching design gestures / strategies to Design & Business executives down through driving & delivering these design concepts to market within the Core Teams.

My grounded experience through multiple cycles of product development across Gaming Mice, Keyboards, Headsets & Display Peripherals at Dell helped me not only lead within the industrial design and experience design group, but also influence stakeholders across Engineering, Marketing, Product Management, Procurement and Sales organizations. »

  • « Evolving chapters of the Legend Design Language were managed per-site & per-category, under the umbrella of simplification and modernization.

It was built on an evolution of the Legend DL foundations to entertain the same level of Brand visual / experiential consistency across products and touchpoints, only upgrading them in accordance with each category’s User needs. »

  • « Legend II marks the expansion of form factors and product archetypes across Alienware Peripherals.

With the added complexity in our peripherals offering, I decided to simplify the design gesture of each product category to enhance affordance & portfolio legibility.

This DL Chapter’s Mice, Keyboards, Headsets & Displays design gestures were condensed around fewer, bolder design features inherited from Legend 1, and harmonized across form factors / CMF / design details. This enabled brand continuity while effectively simplifying the products and modernizing the brand icon.

This also helped create product architecture platforms to enhance product development and build quality.

User research was performed to understand the diversity in gaming, allowing us to bring specific enhancements in aesthetics & usability to each product category’s tiers, catering for various Gamer types and communities’ needs. »

  • « The concurrent DL gesture translation and development across Peripherals categories & multiple Gamer segments allowed me to cross pollinate design solutions, vendor capabilities, business opportunities, and mainly build holistic ecosystem experiences & strategies.

Within this DL cycle I created design & experience tiering strategies that allowed us to developed a wide range of products across market segments that were refined for a broader range of gaming needs. Introducing new form factors & ergonomic variations in each product category, as well as products with new-to-market technology. »
